Lab Tour

Our Lab Space is located in Sisler Hall in rooms SIS 413, 420, 426.

Vigor Dual Station Gloveboxes: These glove boxes are operated under a N2 atmosphere and designed for synthesis of air/moisture sensitive compounds. Each glove box is equipped with a cold well, two -35 °C freezers, electrochemical feedthroughs, vacuum solvent for removing solvent, a small antechamber, and an automated large antechamber. Dry hydrocarbon solvents are plumbed directly into the glove box.

H.E.L. High Pressure ChemSCAN Semi-batch reactor: This parallel semi-batch reactor is housed inside of a Vigor dual station glove box and has 8 reactor wells. Temperature, pressure, and stirring rate of each well is independent and can operate up to 200 °C and 100 bar. The HPCS-WinISO operating system allows for live monitoring of reaction conditions and provides gas uptake measurements. Headspace analysis of each reactor can also be obtained through gas sampling ports.

Vigor Single Station Glovebox and Nicolet iS5 FTIR Spectrometer: This glovebox is operated under an Ar atmosphere and is designated for the storage of solid materials. It is equipped with a -35 °C freezer, a small antechamber, and an automated large antechamber. A Nicolet iS5 FTIR spectrometer is housed inside of the glovebox that can perform transmission and ATR-IR measurements.

IKA RV10 Rotary Evaporator: Utilized for solvent removal from reaction mixtures with dedicated vacuum and chiller.

High Vacuum Lines: Three custom high vacuum lines, each with dedicated furnaces, allow for manipulation of solid materials at 10-5 mbar and 1300 °C. Gas reagents can also be delivered with a dedicated vacuum gauge.

Micromeritics ASAP 2020: Utilized for gas adsorption analysis of powders and porous materials.

Schlenk Lines: Five fume hoods are equipped with Schlenk lines for manipulation of air-sensitive materials. Each line has a dedicated vacuum pump, vacuum gauge, purification traps and stir plates.

Micromeritics MicroEffi Reactor: Flow reactor with five mass flow controllers capable of reaction conditions of 800 °C at 100 bar or 1200 °C at 1 bar. A liquid-gas separator allows for separation of product mixtures. Gas analysis is performed with a Agilent 8890 GC system.

Agilent 8890 Gas Chromatography System: GC system used for the analysis of refinery gas mixtures including H2, CO, CO2, N2 and C1-C6 hydrocarbons. Samples are analyzed through manual injections or online analysis from the MicroEffi flow reactor.

Vigor Solvent Purification System: Utilized for drying of common laboratory solvents (pentane, hexanes, toluene, benzene, diethylether, tetrahydrofuran, and pyridine). Hydrocarbon solvents are plumbed directly into the synthesis glove boxes.
